No one in their right mind wants to be diagnosed with walking
pneumonia. There are many people that simply do not go to the doctor
because they think that they already know what is wrong with
them. Finding out that they have walking pneumonia can be
frightening. But if you know the signs of walking pneumonia, then you
will be more prepared to hear the doctor's diagnosis. If you do find
yourself with a case of walking pneumonia, do not be worried because
it is a treatable illness and one that is much easier to deal with
than pneumonia.
Some common signs that you can watch for when it comes to walking
pneumonia are flu like symptoms. Fever is a normally expected, along
with chills and body aches. You may also find yourself feeling really
run down and eventually, developing a chest cough. You might
experience a rash or lumps that develop on your neck. If you find
yourself having any of these signs and you feel that you have had them
for longer than you would have expected if it were just a cold or the
flu, then you should seek medical attention.
Walking pneumonia is very contagious and you do not want to risk
infecting those that are around you, especially small children. Their
immune systems are not as developed as an adults immune system, so
getting sick with walking pneumonia can be much more difficult for
them. This also applies to the elderly. Taking simple precautions,
much like you would if you had the flu, can help to protect your loved
ones and strangers from catching this illness from you.
Remember that walking pneumonia does not normally require
hospitalization the way that regular pneumonia can. You can expect to
feel pretty bad for a little while, but you should be able to continue
to function on a fairly normal basis. Just be sure to drink plenty of
fluids and get rest when you need it. Also, take any medication that
your doctor prescribes for you or advises you to take to ease the
discomfort of the symptoms .
